Ugandan track and field athlete Benjamin Kiplagat was found dead in a car in Kenya with a stab wound to the neck, the Daily Monitor reports.
The body of the 34-year-old athlete was discovered on Saturday.
Kenyan police spokesman Stephen Okal said two men were arrested on suspicion of committing a crime near the town of Eldoret. One of them was in possession of a knife which was allegedly used to inflict the fatal blow.
“Both suspects are known criminals who terrorize the public.” The investigation is at an advanced stage, Okal said, quoted by AFP.
According to him, two men were “waiting” for the athlete, and he hit their motorcycle with a car.
Kiplagat specialized in the steeplechase, taking ninth place at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and winning bronze at the 2012 African Championships.
