For the past 25 years, all the struggle in rhythmic gymnastics on the international stage has taken place only among Russians, therefore, in the event of non-admission to the 2024 Olympics in Paris, Russian gymnasts can perform in other competitions and within the country, the president of the All-Russian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation (VFCG) told Irina Viner-Usmanova .
At the end of February, the executive committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that federations not allow Russians and Belarusians to compete due to the situation in Ukraine. IOC member, former World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) boss Craig Reedy said in July that the Russians’ performance at the 2024 Olympics in Paris is unlikely.
– The qualification period has already started, next year there will be the European Championship and the World Championship, which will be the selection for the Olympic Games. Now we weren’t in the European Championship, we’re not in the World Championship, but next year I don’t know what the situation will be.
Now we are doing other things with the BRICS countries. We are creating our own program, we will have competitions. For the past 25 years, all the struggle has been between our gymnasts. Therefore, we can compete quite calmly here.
We see: now the level of rhythmic gymnastics has dropped, unfortunately. If this continues in the Olympics, eyesight will appear weak in the context of other sports, Viner-Usmanova told .
The 2023 Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships will take place in Valencia.
