Romanian specialist is considering moving to Besiktas
Former head coach Dynamo Mircea Lucescu said that he could not continue to work in Kyiv due to the constant threat from Russian bombing.
“I wanted to stay there until the end, but the atmosphere in Kyiv became very difficult. Now the Russians are bombing Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities again, the situation is becoming more and more complicated. I stayed in such conditions for 3 years, built the Dynamo team, the only one in the world in which the majority are graduates of the club Academy.”
“Germany published statistics according to which Dynamo’s own students spend an average of 83 minutes per game this season. Note that French team Rennes, second in this ranking, has 62 minutes. I have built a squad for the future, but Dynamo plays without spectators, always far from home, and every time I have to travel huge distances. But the main thing is to survive, and football, believe me, helps a lot in wartime, even if it is played far away.”
“It’s true that I haven’t retired. I left Dynamo because my wife Nelly was afraid to move to Kyiv, and I didn’t like seeing her at home alone and was worried about myself. I have an endless passion, but it depends on my health.”
“Transition to Besiktas? I appreciate everything.”
Let us remind you that Lucescu resigned as the head coach of Dynamo Kyiv in early November after a defeat to Shakhtar (0:1). Later, Cluj and Dinamo Bucharest were interested in the specialist. According to Romanian journalists, the coach himself is waiting for an offer from the Romanian national team, with whom he would like to work until the end of his career.
In December, Mircea was also named among the candidates to become Lyon’s new coach. The Romanian second division club Corvinul Hunedoara, for which Lucescu played at the end of his playing career and later worked on the coaching staff, also held talks with the coach.
