Athletistic/Chess. Russian grandmaster Sergei Karjakin believes that the International Chess Federation (FIDE) should have reacted to the incident at the World Rapid Chess Championship, when Pole Jan-Krzysztof Duda refused to shake hands with Russian Denis Khismatullin. Duda, before starting a match with Khismatullin during the last World Championship in Samarkand (Uzbekistan), refused to greet the Russian, who extended his hand to him.

“It’s a shame that such a thing is happening, because sport should unite people. Previously, wars stopped during the Olympics and sports competitions served as peacekeeping events. However, we have now an affair between the Russian grandmaster Denis Khismatullin and his rival Jan -Krzysztof Duda from Poland. A normal athlete does not come to mind to refuse a handshake. Denis Khismatullin wanted to greet his opponent, as is the habit before the match, but the latter refused. This is not normal. Regardless of political opinions, respect must be present. FIDE, in my opinion, should have reacted to such cases, and anyone who refuses to tighten the hand should be punished – a warning or defeat in the game. Denis is my coach, we have worked a lot together and I am I am happy that he supports my position. It is wonderful when your coach supports not only in sports , but also in life. People like Duda, who can hardly be called gentlemen, leave this on their conscience. The main thing is that our conscience is clear,” Karyakin said in an interview with Match TV.
