Athletistic / Chess. Russian Chess Federation (RFC) Vice President Sergei Smagin said the International Chess Federation (FIDE) should introduce fines for refusing a handshake. Smagin made this proposal after an incident during the World Rapid Chess Championship in Samarkand (Uzbekistan).

The Ukrainian Olympic Committee decided to no longer receive money from the IOC after the Russians were admitted to the Olympic Games.

There, Polish grandmaster Jan-Krzysztof Duda refused to shake hands with Russian Denis Khismaullin. The Russian extended his hand to his opponent, but the latter declined the handshake with a gesture.

“Due to the increasing frequency of such cases, FIDE must introduce strict rules regarding pressure. If a person does not follow the rules laid down in competitions, then there is simply a fine. If you do not tighten pressure hand, you receive 10 thousand dollars. Then your brain will quickly come to its senses. This is the only correct way”, – RIA Novosti quotes Smagin.
