The winger plays for Panathinaikos, but can now sign a preliminary contract with another club
According to media reports, two Brazilian grandees at once – Atlético Mineiro And Palmeiras — are competing to sign experienced midfielder Bernard, who previously played for Shakhtar and now represents Panathinaikos.
The 31-year-old player’s contract with the Greek club runs until the end of the 2023/24 season, and, according to the rules, he already has the right to enter into a preliminary agreement with another club in order to move there as a free agent in the summer.
It is assumed that the Brazilian is inclined to opt for Atlético de Minas Gerais, the club of which he is a graduate and from which he moved to Shakhtar in 2013. At the same time, according to one version, Palmeiras does not pretend to be an experienced player.
The player will reportedly hold talks with representatives of both Brazilian clubs next week.
Panathiaikos is in second place in the Greek Super League, two points ahead of AEK and one behind PAOK. Bernard has played 26 matches in various tournaments this season, scored four goals and provided four assists.
In the recently concluded Brazilian Championship, Palmeiras became champions and Atlético Mineiro finished third. Both teams qualified for the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.
