Athletistic / Chess. Polish politician Jacek Wilk commented on the scandalous episode that occurred during the 2023 World Rapid Chess Championship in Samarkand (Uzbekistan). In the first round match, Russian Denis Khismatullin extended his hand to Polish grandmaster Jan-Krzysztof Duda before the match, but he refused this gesture from his opponent.
“Sport must become an alternative to politics, so mixing politics with sport is a sign of weakness and goes against its very essence. Duda must decide what he does – sport or politics” , Vilk wrote on his social media page.
- Chess player Khismatullin first commented on the scandal with the Pole’s refusal to shake his hand
Note that Khismatullin refused to file a complaint with the Ethics Committee of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), so Duda will avoid any punishment for this incident.
