Several important transfers and an unbeaten streak in test matches
On Wednesday, June 20, in Lodz, Poland, Dinamo will play the first match with Fenerbahce in the second round of Champions League qualification. Sport Arena tells how the Turkish club is doing a week before the first meeting with the people of Kiev.
Month of preparation
In early June, Fenerbahce, who finished second in the Turkish Championship, introduced the team’s new head coach. It was the Portuguese specialist Jorge Jesus, who won 19 trophies with four different clubs in his time, including three championship titles in Portugal, gold in the Brazilian championship and the Copa Libertadores.
Under the leadership of the Portuguese, the team gathered on June 13, having passed a two-day medical examination. Already on June 15, Fenerbahce held the first training session as part of the preparatory camp, which the team started in Turkey. On July 1, the Canaries moved to Austria.
11 million for transfers
In the summer, Fenerbahce strengthened the squad quite well. Uruguayan winger Diego Rossi joined the ranks of the team, having played last season with the Canaries on loan from Los Angeles Galaxy (39 games, six goals and nine assists for Fener), becoming the club’s most expensive summer rookie so far – compensation was paid for his transfer to 5.5 million euros.
Brazilian midfielder Lincoln moved from Portuguese Santa Clara to Fenerbahce, whose transfer cost 3.5 million euros, and Emre Mor, well-known for playing for Borussia Dortmund and Celta Celta, was bought from Karagyumryuk for two million. Bruma was taken on loan from PSV. In total, Fenerbahce spent 11 million euros on summer transfers.
As for the losses, the most tangible, in any case, judging by the names – Mezut Ozil. The club terminated the agreement with the star midfielder by mutual agreement of the parties. The Canaries received 7.5 million from Hull for the transfers of Allahyar (4 million), remembered by the Ukrainians for his performances for Zorya, and Tufan. The club did not renew the contract with the former midfielder of Metalist Argentine Jose Sosa.
It must be admitted that newcomers, including conditional ones, are quite successfully adapting to the team – Lincoln has a goal and two assists in test matches, Bruma has one goal scored.
Unbeaten in sparring
And in general, Fenerbahce is still unbeaten in control matches. The Canaries have already played six fights, ending one match in a draw and winning five meetings, and in a row.
Fenerbahçe in the first match of the off-season drew with Shkupi, and then successively beat Tirana – 4:0, Al Shamal – 4:2, Partizan – 1:0, Fehervar – 3:0 and Hull – 2:0. The team’s best snipers in test matches are Enner Valencia and Serdar Dursun.

In the new season, Fenerbahce also changed the emblem of the team. Now five stars have been added to it, which symbolizes the 28 Turkish championship titles won by the Canaries since the founding of the Turkish Football Federation in 1923.
