German national team coach had his Tour de Ski accreditation revoked for helping his skiers during the race

German national team coach Peter Schlickenrieder was stripped of accreditation for the Tour de Ski stage race because he helped his skiers during one of the races, NRK reports.

During the women’s classic pursuit on Thursday, Schlickenrieder placed a spare ski on the course during the race. So German skiers could clear snow from it. The coach himself later admitted his guilt.

— The rules say it’s forbidden. It was the coach’s fault, so they sanctioned me and revoked my accreditation. I will only be able to coach the team at the end of the Tour de Ski. The judges said this should not happen and fined us a thousand francs. It’s not easy for our team, but I accept it. “It’s my fault,” said the German coach.

The winner of the women’s pursuit race is Finland’s Kerttu Niskanen. The best result for the Germans was achieved by Katharina Hennig, who took ninth place.

In September 2023, the International Ski Federation (FIS) extended the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions.
