Svitolina: I’m glad I didn’t spend too much energy

The first racket of Ukraine reached the semi-finals of the tournament in New Zealand

The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina commented on the victory over Maria Bouzkova in the quarterfinals of the tournament WTA 250 in New Zealand Auckland.

“It was a great performance on my part. I’m still surprised how many people were in the stands this late. I was a little worried about this.”

“I knew that I had to show my best game on the court today. I know how well Maria can play, she is a great fighter. In the second set you could see Bouzkova trying to get back into the game and it took me a little while to finish the match in straight sets.”

“But I’m happy with my performance. I hit the ball well, I wanted my shots to be short and sharp. I’m happy with my level that I was able to win in two sets and not spend too much energy.”

The Ukrainian beat her opponent dry in the first set. In the second game, Bouzkova led with a break, but Svitolina responded with five games won in a row.

In the first round, Elina beat former world number one Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark. Next, the Ukrainian snatched victory from the British Emma Raducanu. In the semifinals, Svitolina will play Xiu Wang from China.
