Together with Seleção, Mario won four world titles as a footballer and coach
Legendary former football player and coach of the Brazilian national team Mario Zagallo died at the age of 92.
“The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) declares seven days of mourning in memory of its eternal champion and strives to honor his legacy. His statue will appear in the Brazilian Football Museum,” said CBF President Ednaldo Rodriguez.
Zagallo has a unique achievement. As a football player, Mario became world champion twice in 1958 and 1962. Zagallo then became head coach of the Seleção and won the World Cup in 1970. The specialist later won his fourth world title as a coordinator on the coaching staff of the Brazilian national team in 1994.
Zagallo last worked with the Brazilian national team in 2006 as the team’s technical director. The Seleção reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Germany. After this, the legendary coach ended his football career.
