The Ukrainian won a strong-willed victory in the semi-finals of the tournament in Auckland
The first racket of Ukraine Elina Svitolina commented on the victory over Siu Wan in the semi-finals of the tournament WTA 250 in New Zealand Auckland.
“Today was very difficult. Earlier in this tournament, I played three difficult rounds, playing until late at night. After yesterday’s match I was able to go to bed at a very late hour, so it was difficult. Today I played as if there was no tomorrow. I tried to force myself, I fought, I wanted to give everything I had to win.”
“Did your opponent show a strong performance today? Indeed, yes, I was trying to just hit another ball over the net and take advantage of my chances when they appeared. It was really difficult today. But I tried to push myself to fight, I wanted to focus on what I could do. I would like to thank the audience for their support because you have truly inspired me.”
Elina lost the first set to the Chinese, but managed to win the next two. The match lasted more than two hours, during the game Elina had to take a medical time-out.
In the final of the tournament in Auckland, Elina will meet the first seeded American Coco Gauff. The third racket of the world has reached the decisive stage without losing a single set so far.
