Figure skating costume designer Galina Okhotina, commenting on the conflict between her colleague Alena Kuklycheva and the European champion Alena Kostornaya explained to why designers don’t work without advance payment.
Kuklycheva previously publicly accused Kostornaya of failure to fulfill her obligations under a costume sewing contract and rude attitude. Kuklycheva plans to sue the 20-year-old athlete.
— I follow the current situation, I agree with the designer. Nowadays, no one undertakes to make costumes without prior payment, because investing one’s own funds is very expensive. Materials, stones, rhinestones are more and more expensive. I think it is very rude for a figure skater to remove their costumes without paying, use them and return them as worn or useless.
I hope the Russian Figure Skating Federation will pay for the costumes, because the work of the design team must be paid! The work was carried out efficiently, to a decent standard. Therefore, in this situation, I am on the side of Kuklycheva and the designers who worked, invested energy, ideas and creativity,” Okhotina told .
