Samodelkina: “I was not ready to leave Sokolovskaya’s group and I still don’t understand the reason”

Vice-champion of Russia in junior figure skating Sofia Samodelkina told how she perceived the departure of coach Svetlana Sokolovskaya from the group.

In September, the 16-year-old athlete left Sokolovskaya’s group and joined Evgeni Plushenko’s academy.

“I didn’t make the decision to leave alone; I wasn’t ready for everything to happen like this.” There weren’t even any prerequisites. The day before, Svetlana Vladimirovna asked her mother to come to the skating rink. There was nothing unusual about this. I had a good morning workout that day. I did a quadruple loop jump. She didn’t pop it, she just fucked it up. Then I think I even ran the program. In other words, overall everything was going well. And then my mother and I were invited to the methodological room, where all the coaches of our group, absolutely everyone, had already gathered. It was at that moment that I began to understand: a difficult conversation awaited us, ”Samodelkina is quoted as saying by RT.

The athlete admitted that she was not internally prepared for such a development of events.

– Honestly no. I still don’t completely understand the reason. But then I listened to everything, I agreed with some things, not with others, but it didn’t matter anymore. Then everyone left the office, including my mother, and I was left alone. And of course, let’s cry. Not because I was kicked out. I really didn’t understand what to do next,” added Samodelkina.

In August, it became known that Samodelkina had received Kazakh citizenship.
