Coco defeated Elina in the final of the tournament in Auckland
World number three Coco Gauff thanked her opponent in the final of the tournament in Auckland Elina Svitolina for outstanding performance.
“This is my first time defending a title, so I’m very glad that I was able to do it today. I would like to congratulate Elina on an incredible week. What you do, becoming a mother and returning so quickly and to such a high level is very inspiring. I hope I can do it just like you… But really, I hope I don’t have to do it in the coming years.”
Let us remind you that 19-year-old Gauff won a strong-willed victory over Svitolina (2:1) in the final of the tournament WTA 250 in New Zealand Auckland. Before meeting Edina, Coco had not lost a single set in this competition.
This tournament was Elina’s first in four months. On the way to the final, the Ukrainian beat former world number one Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark, snatched victory from the British Emma Raducanu and confidently dealt with Marie Bouzkova from the Czech Republic.
Very soon, Svitolina (together with Angelina Kalinina, Lesya Tsurenko and Marta Kostyuk) will start in the main draw of the first major of the year – Australian Open-2024. The event will take place from January 14 to January 28, 2024.
