Famous Portuguese coach Fernando Santos officially headed Besiktas.

Santos, 69, has been unemployed since September 2023, when he was sacked as Poland head coach. The specialist is also known for his work with Porto, Benfica, Sporting, AEK, PAOK, the national teams of Greece and Portugal. He led the latter to victory at the 2016 European Championships.

Besiktas started the 2023/24 season under the leadership of Şenol Güneş, who left the team after losing to Lugano (2:3) in the Conference League. The team was then led by Burak Yilmaz and Riza Chalymbay.

It was reported that Besiktas was also in talks with Mircea Lucescu and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Besiktas are sixth in the Turkish Super League, 18 points behind the top two, Fenerbahce and Galatasaray. In the next match, the Black Eagles will play Rizespor on January 9.
