“I thought: when I become a coach, I will have fun with the children” – former student of Tutberidze

Figure skater Vladimir Samoilov who plays for Poland, told that he helps coach Angelina Turenko work with the children on the ice.

In 2021, Samoilov decided to play for the Polish national team. The 24-year-old athlete is training in Italy. Previously he studied in the group of Eteri Tutberidze.

—You said you helped the coaches. Who are you trying to pick up?

“Sometimes I go out to help the little kids in our group, they pay me a little for that, I didn’t ask myself, they asked me and I worked. Money isn’t really important.

Most of the guys are Russian speakers, we communicate in our native language, with a few guys in English. This experience helped me, I started to think a little differently, to understand coaches better. When you’re skating, you don’t really realize how hard it is for the coach.

— Do you plan to become a professional trainer in the future?

– I like this. Maybe I would like to work with my coach Angelina Turenko in the future. But until I go further, I don’t know how everything will turn out. For now, it’s a way to earn extra money and gain experience.

— Do you consider yourself a tough coach?

— I thought that by becoming a coach, I would have fun with the children (laughs). There were times when mentors treated me very harshly. Over time, this desire passes, but I think that something average in this indicator will come out of me, ”Samoilov told .

The skater is the winner and prize-winner of the stages of the Russian Cup and the Junior Grand Prix.
