Former U.S. swim team member Steve Genter has put his 1972 Olympic medals up for sale, Swimming World Magazine reports.
At the Munich Games, Genter won gold in the freestyle relay, silver in the 200-meter freestyle relay, and bronze in the 400-meter freestyle relay. The medals are offered for sale at RR Auction in Boston.
All these awards were won by Genter after a collapsed lung, which occurred a week before the start of the Munich Games. Five days before departure, he had surgery.
Genter, 73, who also won two gold medals at the Pan American Games in 1971, married Swiss Olympic swimmer Erica Ruegg in 1974 and later moved to Switzerland.
