Inoue will defend his undisputed title against Nery in May

The Mexican was previously disqualified for fights in Japan, but they plan to lift the ban

Absolute world champion in two weight categories Naoya Inoue agreed to defend titles in the second bantamweight with the former world champion Louis Neri. The fight will take place in May 2024.

Nery is the mandatory challenger for the WBC belt in this category. Earlier, the Mexican’s promoter Fernando Beltran said that Louis would definitely take the opportunity to regain the titles after Inoue’s fight with Marlon Tapales.

Note that the fight is planned to take place in Japan. Nery received a lifetime ban from the Japan Boxing Commission in 2018 for using the banned substance zilpaterol in preparation for his title fight with Japan’s Shinsuke Yamanaka. It is expected that the Mexican’s ban will soon be lifted and he will be able to perform in Japan.

In his last fight, Inoue won an early victory over the Filipino Tapales, taking the IBF and WBA belts in the second bantamweight division. The Japanese also holds the title of absolute bantamweight champion. The Japanese is recognized as the best boxer of 2023 according to ESPN.
