The leader of the Ukrainian women’s team plans to deliberately prepare for the World Cup
Leader of the Ukrainian women’s biathlon team Julia Jima will miss European Championship 2024. The athlete plans to purposefully prepare for the World Championships, said the team’s senior coach Nikolai Zots.
“Jim and his personal trainer Urosh Velepc asked me to help them implement their plan. If Petrenko, Merkushina and Dmitrenko miss the sprint in Ruhpolding and go to the heights, then Jima would not want to go to the heights now. She will compete in Ruhpolding, then stay there until the 28th, but wants to skip the European Championships and prepare for the World Championships. I don’t mind. Let’s hope everything will be fine,” Zots said.
Earlier, Nikolai Zots said that Irina Petrenko, Anastasia Merkushina and Kristina Dmitrenko will not compete in individual races at the fifth stage of the 2023/24 World Cup in Ruhpolding. Immediately after the relay, the athletes will go to Antholz, where they will train in high altitude conditions. Later, all three plan to take part in the World Championships.
The 2024 European Championships will take place in Brezno-Osrbli, Slovakia, from January 24 to 28. The 2024 World Cup will take place in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, from February 7 to 18.
