Minister of Sports of Russia Oleg Matytsin congratulated the Russian swimmer Kliment Kolesnikov with the ratification of the 50m backstroke world record.
Kolesnikov set the world record for 50 meters in July last year – 23.55 seconds. The International Swimming Federation (World Aquatics) officially recognized the result of the 23-year-old Russian.
— I sincerely congratulate Kliment Kolesnikov for the recognition of his merits. The National Swimming School continues to demonstrate high standards of training. In the Russian Cup swimming semi-final in Kazan, Clement surpassed the result of American Hunter Armstrong. This is not our swimmer’s first record: in 2022 he set a world record over the same distance, but on a short course.
I am sure that Clément still has many victories and records ahead of him. I wish him further success, may his exploits become an example for many future champions,” Matytsin is quoted in the press service of the Ministry of Sports.
Kolesnikov is an Olympic silver medalist in the 100-meter backstroke and an Olympic bronze medalist in the 100-meter freestyle.
