Double bronze medalist at the World Ski Championships Alexey Poltoranin will not be able to compete until 2026, according to the official website of the National Anti-Doping Center of Kazakhstan.
During the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld, Austrian authorities conducted a raid during which several athletes were arrested, including Poltoranin. He was then banned for four years for administering a blood transfusion. The skier’s suspension expired in the spring of 2023.
However, the 36-year-old Kazakh athlete’s suspension was extended until March 2026.
As sportarena.kz reports with reference to the country’s anti-doping center, the period of disqualification was extended, since Poltoranin “after the expiration of the first sentence decided to resume his career, but earlier the skier wrote a letter to the International Ski Federation, where he announced his retirement from the sport. Then his disqualification was “frozen”, allowing Alexey to no longer pass the test. However, due to the skier’s decision to return, the remaining period of his disqualification was “unfrozen”, meaning it came back into force.
Poltoranin won bronze medals at the 2013 World Championships in the team sprint and 50 km mass start.
