Famous promoter Frank Warren promised “surprises” on the undercard of the upcoming confrontation for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between the holder of the WBC championship belt Tyson Fury and champion according to WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO versions Alexander Usik.
“A week later we will be back in Riyadh for the first undisputed heavyweight title showdown in a century between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.”
“This fight represents the pinnacle of the sport and it’s what we’ve all been waiting for. We know from recent past experience that our friends and colleagues in Saudi Arabia will do justice to this event and we will soon be able to announce an undercard that will not be short of surprises.”
Some participants in the undercard of the Usyk-Fury confrontation are already known. The head-to-head match will feature IBF super featherweight world champion Joe Cordina from Wales and IBO title holder Anthony Cacace from Northern Ireland. Also part of the big evening will be 40-year-old Russian Sergey Kovalev and undefeated Swede Robin Safar.
The Usik-Fury fight for the title of absolute heavyweight champion will officially take place on February 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Initially, the fight was planned to be organized on December 23 in Riyadh. However, it later became clear that Tyson would not have time to prepare for this time after the fight with Francis Ngannou at the end of October.
Fury defeated Ngannou via split decision. It was reported that the Briton received two cuts in a fight with the former UFC champion.
Usik fought his last fight on August 27 in Wroclaw, Poland. The Ukrainian knocked out Daniel Dubois in the 9th round and defended his championship titles.
