Athletistic/Figure skating. USSR Honored Coach Tatiana Tarasova said in an interview with Match TV that Russian figure skaters were doing the right thing by deciding to change their sports citizenship in light of Russia’s temporary suspension from international competitions.

At the European Figure Skating Championships, held in Kaunas (Lithuania) from January 10 to 14, the list of participants includes 24 skaters born in Russia: 8 pairs, 7 singles, 5 dancers and 4 singles. Also performing well are athletes who, although born outside Russia, previously had Russian nationality.

— Many skaters were unable to join the Russian national team. In the absence of the Russians, did they have a chance of winning medals?

– Yes. And they’re doing the right thing by leaving. Sport is their life, their profession and they need to perform well,” Tarasova said in an interview with Match TV.
