Athletistic/ Figure skating. This week the European Figure Skating Championships take place in Kaunas, Lithuania. Russian skaters will not participate in it, since they were suspended from tournaments under the auspices of the ISU in March 2022. At the same time, many representatives of other countries were born in Russia and later changed their citizenship athletic.

Thursday, January 11, the second day of competition of the European Championship was held. It started with a short program in women’s singles and ended with a free program in pairs.

Short program in women’s single skating

Not all figure skaters of Russian origin managed to integrate the free program. The representative of Poland Ekaterina Kurakova gave a sensational result. She took to the ice in the final warm-up group and finished only 25th, scoring 49.57 points. Antonina Dubinina, representing Serbia, finished 31st.

At the same time, many place their greatest hopes on Anastasia Gubanova, who has been playing for Georgia since 2021. The fact is that last year Gubanova became the European champion. However, after the short program, she was only third, with 68.96 points. Gubanova let two Belgian athletes, Luna Hendricks and Nina Pinzarrone, pass.

The free program is scheduled for Saturday, January 13. Based on his results, the European champion will be determined.

Free program for sporty couples

As part of the past day, medals have already been played. This happened among sports couples performing free programs. After a short program, Georgian representatives Anastasia Metelkina and Luka Berulava, who train in Russia, were in the lead. However, in terms of total points, they only became second, gaining 196.14 points. Lucrezia Beccari and Matte Guarise, playing for Italy, became champions.

Hungarian representatives Maria Pavlova and Alexey Svyatchenko also performed successfully. They took fourth place. One row below are Germany’s representatives Minevra Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin. Another Russian, Yulia Shchetinina, associated with Pole Michal Wozniak, finished tenth.
