Jay will also work in Tyson’s camp as a sparring partner
Former world champion IBF in the first heavyweight Jay Opetaja will perform on the undercard of the fight for the title of absolute world heavyweight champion between the holder of the WBC championship belt Tyson Fury and champion according to WBO/WBA/IBF/IBO versions Alexander Usik.
Jay’s opponent will be determined soon. It is also reported that the former world champion will work as a sparring partner in the Gypsy King’s camp.
Opetaya knocked out Briton Ellis Zorro in the first round in his last fight. The fight took place as part of the “Day of Reckoning” event in Saudi Arabia.
Let us remind you that in the undercard of the Usyk-Fury confrontation, IBF world champion in super featherweight Joe Cordina from Wales and IBO title holder Anthony Cacace from Northern Ireland will compete in head-to-head combat. Also part of the big evening will be 40-year-old Russian Sergey Kovalev and undefeated Swede Robin Safar.
The Usik-Fury fight for the title of absolute heavyweight champion will officially take place on February 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Initially, the fight was planned to be organized on December 23 in Riyadh. However, it later became clear that Tyson would not have time to prepare for this time after the fight with Francis Ngannou at the end of October.
Fury defeated Ngannou via split decision. It was reported that the Briton received two cuts in a fight with the former UFC champion.
Usik fought his last fight on August 27 in Wroclaw, Poland. The Ukrainian knocked out Daniel Dubois in the 9th round and defended his championship titles.
