The Usik-Fury fight for the title of absolute heavyweight champion will officially take place on February 17 in Riyadh
Famous American trainer Buddy McGirt explained why he considers the WBC champion Tyson Fury favorite in the upcoming fight with the Ukrainian champion and holder of the WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO titles Alexander Usik.
“At the moment I don’t give preference to anyone. For me, it all depends on how Tyson Fury comes out for this fight. Tyson uses his size to his advantage and does it very well. If a Tyson Fury like that comes into the ring, then I choose him.”
The Usik-Fury fight for the title of absolute heavyweight champion will officially take place on February 17 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Initially, the fight was planned to be organized on December 23 in Riyadh. However, it later became clear that Tyson would not have time to prepare for this time after the fight with Francis Ngannou at the end of October.
Fury defeated Ngannou via split decision. It was reported that the Briton received two cuts in a fight with the former UFC champion. Usik fought his last fight on August 27 in Wroclaw, Poland. The Ukrainian knocked out Daniel Dubois in the 9th round and defended his championship titles.
On the undercard of the Usyk-Fury confrontation, IBF world super featherweight champion Joe Cordina from Wales and IBO title holder Anthony Cacace from Northern Ireland will compete in head-to-head combat. Also part of the big evening will be 40-year-old Russian Sergey Kovalev and undefeated Swede Robin Safar. In another fight, former IBF cruiserweight world champion Jay Opetaja will enter the ring.
