French figure skater Adam Xiao Lui Fa said he did a backflip at the European Championships to entertain the crowd and promote the sport.
At a competition in Lithuania, Xiao Him Fa did an illegal somersault during his free skate. The judges fined the athlete two points, but this did not prevent him from winning the European Championship.
“The free skate requires more energy than the exhibition performances, but I felt good and had the strength to do it. I wanted to perform it in front of the public and I did it to promote our sport. It’s less dangerous than it seems,” quotes the Goldenskate skater.
At the same time, the athlete noted that performing this element at the World Championships would be “too risky”, but did not rule out that he would do it again.
In figure skating, the backflip (or backflip) was banned in 1976 due to the risk of injury.
