“In the sprint final I struggled, but in the end I decided to save my energy for the skiathlon” – skier Krupitskaya

Skier Evgenia Krupitskaya after sixth place in the sprint at the Russian Cup stage, she told that she made it through the final “by the teeth” and ultimately decided to save her energy for the skiathlon.

On Saturday, Krupitskaya became sixth in the classic-style sprint at the fifth stage of the Alfa-Bank Russian Cup in Kazan, losing 32.11 seconds to winner Anastasia Faleeva. Olga Sergeeva (+4.26) took second place, Ekaterina Evtyagina (+4.67) took third place.

— Overall it was a good race for me – I made it to the final. A very specific track for powerful athletes. I’m not one. I thought for a long time whether I should start or not, because there is a lot of plain here and I don’t feel very confident about it. My coach and I thought maybe we should save our energy for the skiathlon, but against all odds for me, I made it to the final, which I’m very happy about.

— What went wrong in the final? The gap is serious.

– Nothing happened there. We started and approached the climb, which I generally feel confident in compared to the other girls, but I was already going strong. So when I climbed the hill, I was no longer able to push myself normally and lost contact with the group. At that point, I decided it was better to save energy for the skiathlon and get there more calmly.

– Today there were a lot of contact fights, there were falls. What is this linked to?

– Weather features. There was strong wind last night and this morning. When we went out to warm up, the entire ski slope was covered in slow moving snow. Therefore, during the race, the athletes tried to look for a faster track, made many changes, rushed along the track, and someone walked the wrong way. Everyone rode much tighter than usually happens during a sprint, because of this there were more clashes and breakdowns,” Krupitskaya told .
