Athletistic/ Figure skating. The European Figure Skating Championships take place this week. It is held in Kaunas, Lithuania. Unfortunately, Russian figure skaters cannot participate. The fact is that they were suspended from tournaments under the auspices of the ISU in March 2022 for political reasons. At the same time, representatives of other countries born in Russia can participate in the European Championships.

One of these skaters can be called Anastasia Gubanova. The athlete represents Georgia. She changed her sports citizenship in 2021. Last year, Gubanova brought her new country a gold medal at the European Championships.

This season has proven to be quite unstable for the ex-Russian. However, she received a ticket to the European Championship and the opportunity to compete for the defense of the title. After the short program in Kaunas, Gubanova finished third with 68.96 points. She was overtaken by two Belgian figure skaters, Luna Hendricks and Nina Pinzarrone.
Today, January 13, the free program took place. In it, Anastasia Gubanova was able to show the second result and ultimately defeated Nina Pinzarrone and won silver. In total, she scored 206.52 points for two programs. Luna Hendrix became the champion.

Anastasia Gubanova again showed a good result at the European Championships. Last year’s gold was followed by a silver medal. Georgians reacted to the result of a native of Russia. They left comments on the social networks of the Georgian Figure Skating Federation.
