The defender is also confident that Everton will be able to avoid relegation, despite the deduction of points
Ukrainian defender Everton Vitaly Mikolenko said that with his game he is trying to raise the morale of the people of Ukraine.
“I hope this disaster ends as soon as possible because it is terrible for the whole world. I try to forget about the war on the field because it doesn’t help me. I focus on good emotions and try to send good messages to the people of Ukraine. If I play well, I think it will benefit our country.”
The Ukrainian also spoke about the team’s reaction to the deduction of 10 points in the English Championship for violating financial fair play. Recall that Everton recorded financial losses of 304 million pounds over a three-year period, against the permitted limit of 105 million set by the Premier League. The club appealed this decision.
“When I heard the news about the points being written off, it was hard to understand. But in training I see that everyone wants to score more points because we don’t want to end up at the bottom of the table. I think after that we realized that we need to work in the same direction – together. I am confident that we can avoid any danger.”
Everton are in 17th place in the Premier League and are close to the relegation zone. In the next match, Mikolenko’s team will host Aston Villa on January 14. The meeting starts at 16:00.
