Athletistic / Others. Deputies of the Latvian Seimas wrote a letter to French President Emmanuel Macron asking him not to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in the 2024 Olympics. The next Summer Olympics will be held in Paris.
Latvian politicians believe that the decision of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of December 8, 2023 on the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the 2024 Olympic Games is irresponsible and should not be supported by “civilized countries” . In this regard, they call on the French authorities to evaluate the possibility and take all necessary measures to prevent the participation of athletes from these two countries in the Olympic tournament.
It should be noted separately that several Latvian Olympic medalists have stated that they do not intend to participate in the 2024 Olympics in Paris if Russians and Belarusians are allowed there, even as neutral athletes.
The Olympic Games in the French capital will be held from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
