Athletistic/Figure skating. Irina Rodnina, a three-time Olympic champion and Olympic vice-champion, said it was worth discussing and supporting Russian athletes dedicated to their country, rather than those who changed their citizenship.

Rodnina’s reaction was provoked by a question about the fairness of the judging regarding Russian figure skater Anastasia Gubanova, representing Georgia, at the European Championships in Kaunas. Gubanova took second place, losing to Belgian Luna Hendricks. A year ago, during the same championship, the situation was reversed.

“Why do they always talk about third level skaters? Why doesn’t anyone talk about our best skaters who remain dedicated to the country? Let’s support and discuss those who stay and work despite all the difficulties. Why discuss those who were in the third level? place in Russian figure skating? We have our own stars who are now developing their careers here for the good of the country,” Rodnina said in an interview with a Sport24 correspondent.
