The minister believes that in crisis conditions young football players will get a chance
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba believes that Ukrainian football in war conditions can give local players a chance to develop.
“Now there is a chance for Ukrainian football to rethink itself. We had this surge from the mid-90s to the early 2000s, but there was still a lot of inertia of Soviet football, the system of education and selection was still working… Then we completely switched to foreign players, that is, money began to control football.”
“And now there is war – there is no money, the quality of football has fallen. On the other hand, now all the clubs are clearing out their schools and chasing youngsters. But I think this is a chance to give birth to a new quality of football management in crisis conditions and a new quality of local football players.”
Let us remind you that after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, many foreign players left the Ukrainian championship. FIFA introduced a special rule allowing foreign players of Ukrainian clubs to suspend their contracts during the war.
Shakhtar actively opposed this rule. In particular, the Miners appealed to the European Court of Human Rights regarding compensation for the transfers of two foreign players – Solomon to Tottenham and Tete to Galatasaray.
