Inna Goncharenko about the transition from figure skater Mozalev to Tutberidze: “The easiest thing is to change coaches and not look for problems somewhere in yourself”

Honored Figure Skating Coach of Russia Inna Goncharenko spoke about the skater’s transition Andrei Mozalev from Kirill Davydenko’s group to Eteri Tutberidze .

Earlier, the media reported that 20-year-old Mozalev left Davydenko’s group to become the honored coach of Russia Eteri Tutberidze. Davydenko confirmed that after the New Year he stopped collaborating with Andrey.

— It’s no surprise that when an athlete is in decline, they tend to look for something new and change. The easiest way is to change the coach, rather than looking for a problem somewhere in yourself and changing something in yourself. Unfortunately, we shouldn’t be surprised. I am a proponent that there should be many different coaching teams and groups, so that there are different athletes with different training. It’s always more interesting for both specialists and spectators.

Mozalev was special in his style and direction. He and Kirill Davydenko worked interestingly, there were very good performances and seasons. Yes, there is now some decline, but they know better what this is linked to. It seems to me that there is a certain stage in growth that must be overcome. But if Andrey sees the path of his development by moving to another coach, why not. Let him try,” Goncharenko was quoted as saying by the Championship.

Mozalev, the 2020 junior world champion, took 11th place in the singles competition at December’s Russian Championships in Chelyabinsk.
