Messi named FIFA’s best footballer of 2023

The Argentine is ahead of Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe

Forward for Inter Miami and Argentina national team Lionel Messi recognized best football player of 2023 according to FIFA.

The Argentine scored an equal number of points in the voting with Manchester City forward Erling Haaland (48 each). Lionel’s victory was given by a greater number of top marks from national team captains (107 versus 64). Third place was taken by PSG and French national team striker Kylian Mbappe (35 points).

In December 2022, Albiceleste captain led his team to the world title. In the summer, Lionel moved from PSG to Inter Miami, where he played a key role in the team winning the League Cup and became the most titled football player in history.

On October 30, Messi won the most prestigious individual award in world football, the Ballon d’Or, for the eighth time. In December, the Argentine was also named Time magazine’s Athlete of the Year.
