Roma have officially parted ways with Mourinho

“The Special One” never returned the team to the Champions League, and now they are ninth in Serie A

Roma officially announced her separation from her head coach Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff.

The club’s statement said the following:

“We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at Roma for his enthusiasm and efforts since his arrival at the club. We will always have wonderful memories of his time at Roma, but we believe immediate changes are in the best interests of the club. We wish Jose and his staff all the best in their future endeavors.”

Rumors about Mourinho’s possible dismissal emerged with renewed vigor after Wolves’ recent defeat to Milan (1:3). Roma have suffered four defeats in their last seven matches, including exit from the Italian Cup.

Mourinho, 60, has had an independent coaching career since 2000. With Porto, Chelsea, Inter, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Roma, he won 26 different trophies, including five European Cup titles.

Jose Mourinho has been in charge of Roma since 2021. With Wolves, the Portuguese won the first ever Conference League (2022), and also led the Roman club to the 2022/23 UEFA Europa League final, where he lost on penalties to Seville. However, the “Special” failed to achieve the main goal – returning to the Champions League.

Information about the new coaching staff will be available soon. According to some information, legendary midfielder Daniele De Rossi may become Mourinho’s successor.

The Romans are currently in ninth place in the Serie A standings after 20 rounds, five points behind the Champions League zone. On January 20, Roma will play at home against Verona.
