De Rossi is Roma’s new head coach

After parting with Mourinho, the choice was made in favor of the “club heart”

Roma officially announced the appointment of its former midfielder, club legend, to the position of head coach Daniele De Rossi.

Let us remember that a few hours earlier the Romans parted ways with Jose Mourinho, who had coached the capital team since the summer of 2021. Under “The Special One”, Wolves have lost four of their last seven matches, including being knocked out of the Coppa Italia.

It was previously reported that 40-year-old Daniele De Rossi was considered to replace Mourinho even before the Portuguese was fired. In recent years, he was an assistant to Italian national team coach Roberto Mancini during his country’s winning Euro 2020, and also led SPAL (2022/23, partial season).

De Rossi is a graduate of Roma. He made his debut for the Romans in the 2001/02 season. In total, Daniele played 616 matches for Wolves, scoring 63 goals and 55 assists. Together with the team, he won the Italian Cup twice and won the country’s Super Cup once.

The Romans are currently in ninth place in the Serie A standings after 20 rounds, five points behind the Champions League zone. De Rossi will make his debut in his new capacity on January 20 in a home match against Verona.
