Georgian figure skaters Metelkina and Berulava could participate in the Russian Championship, believes Bobrova

Olympic champion in team tournament Ekaterina Bobrova believes that the skaters representing Georgia Anastasia Metelkina And Luka Berulava could enter the top five of the Russian Championship.

The 2024 European Championships took place in Kaunas (Lithuania). Italian figure skaters Lucrezia Beccari and Matteo Guarise won gold in pairs skating, with Metelkina and Berulava coming second.

I was sure they wouldn’t make any big mistakes, and even if there were a few, it would allow them to take first place. According to the second estimate, they should be higher.

They are more interesting to watch, they have more speed, they have more complex elements. For me, it’s another level of pair skating. They could compete with ours – perhaps in the top five of the Russian championship. I don’t wear the rest at all. Nastya and Luka have everything ahead, I’m sure they will prove themselves. The junior and senior world championships are coming up. If they had skated cleanly, they would have taken everything, there would have been a sensation at the European Championship – a completely new couple won the final among juniors and immediately the senior European Championship. But unfortunately they gave a reason. We congratulate them on winning silver, it’s wonderful. They skate with extraordinary coaches who have mastered not only Russian pair skating, but also the whole world. This is incredible. Russian figure skaters have been suspended from participating in competitions held under the auspices of the International Skating Union (ISU) due to the situation in Ukraine.

Championship
