At least one representative of Ukraine will play in the fourth round of the event
Two Ukrainian tennis players played their matches in the third round singles Australian Open 2024.
Marta Kostyuk beat in strong-willed style Elina Avanesyan. The meeting lasted two hours and 33 minutes. After losing the first set (2:6), the Ukrainian showed character and scored six breaks over the next two games, which allowed her to triumph in the match (6:4, 6:4).
And here Lesya Tsurenko stopped playing at the tournament, losing to the second seeded Arine Sabalenko. In less than an hour (55 minutes), Sabalenka dealt with the Ukrainian, not allowing her to win a single game during the game – 6:0, 6:0.
Kostyuk will play in the 1/8 finals with the winner of the pair Maria Timofeeva – Beatriz Haddad Maia (Brazil). Her two compatriots Elina Svitolina and Dayana Yastremskaya continue to perform in Australia, who will play their third round games on the night of January 20.
