As part of Sion, the winger played against Dynamo Kyiv
New winger Polesia Yassin Fortune spoke about his move to the Zhytomyr club.
“To be honest, I knew little about Polesie. And when the offer came, I monitored all the news and analyzed the information. I realized how high the level of the club is and saw the place the team occupies in the championship. I looked at who was playing there, looked at the infrastructure, and I really liked it. In a word, I decided to accept this offer.”
“I know what the Ukrainian championship is. I know Shakhtar, I know Dynamo. We actually played with the Kiev team when I played for Sion. I saw the qualifications of the football players and made conclusions regarding the level of the Ukrainian championship. Because I remember the team was really strong. It wasn’t easy for us then.”
“There was no fear as such. There was simply no understanding of the whole situation, how dangerous it was. But I have a friend, he is a football player, plays in Ukraine. I asked him about the situation and he told me everything. I also talked to Beni. I worry more about my children – I have two of them, and not so much about myself. My friend Freddy Pluman and he plays for Lviv Rukh.”
Fortuné arrived from Sion, Switzerland, on loan until the summer of 2024. According to the terms of the agreement, the Zhytomyr club has the option to buy out the player at the end of the season.
Polesie is an absolute newcomer to the UPL. The team from Zhytomyr confidently spent the autumn part of the championship, leaving for the winter break in third place with a two-point gap from the two leaders – Krivbass and Dnepr-1. True, in terms of lost points, Polesie is also inferior to Shakhtar and Dynamo, who have matches in reserve.
In addition, the team, coached by Yuriy Kalitvintsev, made it to the semi-finals of the Ukrainian Cup for the first time in its history, successively passing Agribusiness, Dnepr-1 and Alexandria.
Polesie’s next official match in the 18th round will be away against Rukh. The base date is February 24.
