Pavelko’s detention was extended until February 16

The functionary is suspected of embezzling public funds

President of the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) Andrey Pavelko will remain in Pre-trial detention center for one more month. The functionary’s period of detention was extended until February 16, 2024.

The previous period of the preventive measure was valid until January 18. In mid-June, the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Lvov imprisoned Pavelko in a pre-trial detention center for a period of 60 days, then the functionary’s stay in custody was extended. The bail of 9.88 million hryvnia, which was previously paid for the head of the UAF, was transferred in favor of the state.

In November, the prosecutor’s office completed a pre-trial investigation in a criminal case against Pavelko and the organization’s general secretary, Yuri Zapisotsky, on suspicion of embezzlement of public funds.

The UAF considers the entire process to be custom work from former association leaders. In 2018, the “Schemes” program conducted an investigation, as a result of which journalists suspected the UAF and its president Andrei Pavelko of corruption through a plant for the production of artificial fields.

Let us remind you that the UAF Executive Committee officially approved the holding of the Extraordinary Congress of the UAF on January 25, 2024. The meeting will take place in the Kiev House of Football, starting at 12:00. At the same time, the congress agenda was approved, one of the items of which is “On the election of the UAF President”: the only candidate in the elections is Andrei Shevchenko.
