According to Palkin, Gornyakov President Rinat Akhmetov is creating the strongest version of Shakhtar in the club’s history
CEO Shakhtar Sergei Palkin commented on the transfer of Brazilian winger Kevin to the Pitmen. The functionary also said that the Donetsk club rejected the request for the transfer of Ukrainian midfielder Georgy Sudakov.
“First of all, I am glad that we were able to complete this transfer. This is important for the team, the club, and Ukrainian football. Kevin is a young, very gifted player with very great prospects. This is a football player with excellent speed, incredible dribbling, high football intelligence, quality passing and a good shot. And these are precisely the qualities that fully correspond to Shakhtar’s philosophy of play, allowing them to demonstrate beautiful attacking football that our fans love. These are qualities that can make Kevin a world-class star because he has huge potential for further growth. Therefore, I believe that Kevin will be a real strengthening for our team and will help Shakhtar win many trophies.”
“There is war in Ukraine, there is trouble in Ukraine. Ukraine and Ukrainians are going through the most difficult times. Ukrainian football is also going through the most difficult times. Please look at the ratings of our clubs in Europe – we are in 18th place. Even in the 1990s the situation was better. And if this continues, our fans will no longer hear the Champions League anthem.”
“Yesterday we rejected the offer to sell Sudakov for 40 million euros. Today we are buying a bright player, a future world star for 12 million and an additional 3 million in bonuses possible.”
“What does this say? That our president is creating perhaps the strongest team in the history of Shakhtar. So that we are respected in Europe, so that we win European trophies. We will not give up. And we will do everything to ensure that the Champions League anthem is heard in Ukrainian stadiums.”
“We agreed to pay for Kevin in installments over 2 years – this is normal practice for the football business, we buy players and sell them according to this principle.”
Kevin today officially became a Shakhtar Donetsk player. The club’s agreement with the football player is for 5 years. The Donetsk club will pay the Brazilian side an amount of 15 million euros for the player.
As for Sudakov, the midfielder is being wooed to top European clubs. In particular, the midfielder’s entourage is negotiating with Manchester City, Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern. Giorgi is also on the list of priority targets for Juventus and Napoli.
Shakhtar are in fourth place in the UPL, three points behind the leaders, but with two games in hand. The miners will play Marseille in the 1/16 finals of the Europa League in February. The team is currently at training camp in Belek, Turkey.
