61-year-old Sainz won the 2024 Dakar Rally

Spaniard’s fourth championship

Spanish racer Carlos Sainz became the winner Dakar Rally 2024. Let us remind you that the competition took place in Saudi Arabia.

The pilot won his fourth championship title in his career. This year he competed with co-driver Lucas Cruz in an Audi. The duo did not win any individual stages, but beat Belgian Guillaume De Mevius by one hour, 20 minutes and 25 seconds. Third place was taken by multiple world rally champion Sebastien Loeb.

61-year-old Sainz updated his record as the oldest overall winner of the Dakar. The absolute record belongs to Josef Machacek, who won the Dakar Rally in the prototype category in 2021 at the age of 63.

Sainz won his fourth title while competing for four different teams. In this indicator, he was equal to the Frenchman Stéphane Peterhansel.

Recall that Carlos Sainz is the father of Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz Jr. The Ferrari driver arrived in Saudi Arabia to celebrate his father’s success.
