The IESF suspended the membership of the Russian eSports Federation, but allowed Russian players to compete under a neutral flag

RESF opened its branches in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine

International Esports Federation (IESF) suspended membership Russian Esports Federation (RESF) after appropriate request Ukrainian Esports Federation (UESF).

The reason for the suspension of Russia’s membership in the IESF was a violation of the charter (Article E31, Chapter i) international federation: RESF opened its branches in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

The suspension of RESF membership will remain in effect until the meeting of the IESF General Assembly, where a decision will be made on the complete expulsion of the Russian Federation, or on the restoration of its status.

At the same time, the IESF took into account the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and allowed Russian players to compete under a neutral flag in tournaments under its auspices.

Let us recall that in October the IOC officially suspended the activities of the Russian Olympic Committee for violating the Olympic Charter. The reason was the inclusion of “Olympic councils” from the occupied territories of Ukraine into the latter. In December, a decision was made to admit participants from Russia and Belarus in the status of “individual neutral athletes” to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia fired rockets and aerial bombardment of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The Russian war against Ukraine has continued for the 695th day.
