Kostyuk: Good match, I didn’t even feel like I was playing in the fourth round

Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk commented on the victory over Maria Timofeeva in the fourth round Australian Open 2024.

“During the rain break, I told my coach that I didn’t even feel like I was playing in the fourth round. I didn’t really feel any pressure today.”

“It’s great that I got such a match, I’ll have more time to digest everything. It was a good match for me, I’m really happy that I’m finally playing as aggressively as I want. It was very difficult in the previous games and now I’m very happy that I will play in the quarterfinals.”

“Concentration during the rain break is a matter of practice, I think. We’ve worked hard on this with my team and I’m really happy to see it being a success. It’s never easy – you prepare for a match for two days, then you go on court, you’re leading 2-0 and suddenly it starts to rain and you start to worry that you might lose that momentum. At that moment I didn’t know what to expect, I just wanted to go out on the court and fight to finish the fight as quickly as possible.”

“I love this tournament. This is my favorite tournament, my favorite fans, my favorite Ukrainian fans. And I am very happy to come back here every year. I had some difficult years here, but I kept my love for this place in my heart. And finally, it’s nice to be in the quarter-finals.”

“I think it will be a great match with Coco Gauff. It definitely won’t be easy and I need to be as aggressive as I can. It’s already top 5 and I hope to put on a good show and a good fight.”

The Ukrainian reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her professional career. Previously, Marta won the junior singles tournament at the Australian Open and also reached the semi-finals of the doubles.

In the quarterfinals, Kostyuk will play against the fourth racket of the tournament, Coco Gauff from the USA. The meeting is scheduled for January 23.
