Dayana reached the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in her career
Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremskaya commented on her victory over Victoria Azarenka in 1/8 finals of the Australian Open.
“Very happy and very tired, all together. First quarterfinal, but to be honest, I don’t feel like I’m in the quarterfinals. I do not know why. It’s as if there should be special emotions, but I have the feeling that I just accomplished some small part of what I had to do, which I seemed to have already done before. So I’m moving on and waiting for my next match.”
“Now it’s difficult to remember everything that happened on the court. But, as I already said in the interview on the court, during this match I was thinking that I lost this match, 25 times, you know. Sometimes thoughts arise that I won at the beginning, for example, 3:1, and went for my serve, but lost it, then lost 5:3, and she had a set point. So I felt that somewhere around the score of 5:4 I accepted that I had already lost, and this helped me continue playing. I felt that I had another chance to win. So I don’t know. I played quite aggressively, I think. At some moments it seemed to me that I was too nervous and too emotional, but then I just relaxed and said that everything would be as it would be. Just try to play every ball. That’s all. Nothing special, I would say. But the tiebreak was a little under pressure.”
“Linda Noskova? She’s a good player. I’ve seen several of her matches. I think it will be a tough but interesting match. I can’t say much about her, I need to focus more on myself because everything will depend on me. But she’s a great player. Good man”.
“I don’t really want to go back in time and remember what I was like before. I feel like I haven’t achieved that much. This is only the quarterfinals, and I already had experience playing in Grand Slam tournaments. Because I couldn’t play well and perform well, it was simply because there was something inside me and I talked about it, about the pressure and so on, but nothing changed. I just relaxed.”
