The Ukrainian biathlete became a medalist at the 2024 Youth Olympics

Polina Putsko won the first medal of the current competition for Ukraine.

On Tuesday, January 23, in Gangwon, South Korea, as part of the 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games, the biathlon sprint race for women was held, the medalist of which was Ukrainian Polina Putsko.

The 17-year-old Ukrainian athlete showed the third best result in the distance with a penalty, winning a bronze award. This medal is the first for Ukraine at the current Youth Games.

Italian Carlotta Gautero became the champion, and Slovenian Ela Sever took second place.

Two more Ukrainians also took part in the sprint race: Valeria Sheigas finished 12th, and Irina Shevchenko – 23rd.

In addition to the women’s sprint, a men’s sprint race also took place on January 23, after which Alexander Bilanenko showed the best result among Ukrainians, taking 12th place.

The bronze won by Putsko is the second biathlon award in the history of Ukraine at the Winter Youth Olympic Games after Kristina Dmitrenko’s gold in the pursuit race at Lillehammer 2016.
