Former head coach of the Russian national volleyball team Tuomas Sammelvuo dismissed from a similar position at Sachs, reports the press service of the Polish club.
Adam Svacina has been named interim head coach.
— This decision was dictated by unsatisfactory results. “In the opinion of the Board of Directors, the team’s position in the standings outside the playoff zone, as well as the team’s results in the group stage of the Champions League, differ significantly from objectives set,” the press release said.
At the end of February 2022, the 46-year-old Finnish specialist left the post of head coach of Zenit St. Petersburg. In May of the same year, the president of the All-Russian Volleyball Federation (VFV) Stanislav Shevchenko said that the presidium of the organization had decided not to renew the contract with Sammelvuo. In November 2022, the coach takes over as head of the Canadian national team.
Under the leadership of Sammelvuo, the Russian team took second place at the Tokyo Olympics, losing to the French team in the final.
