The teams of Iran and the UAE advanced directly from the quartet to the playoffs
Iran national team beat the team UAE in the third round of group C on Asian Cup 2023 – 2:1. In another quartet match Palestine dealt with Hong Kong – 3:0.
For Iran, Porto forward Mehdi Taremi scored a goal in each half. With the score 0:1, the UAE had the opportunity to come back, but Yahya Al-Ghassani missed the penalty. However, already in injury time, Al-Ghassani scored an important goal.
Oday Dabbagh scored a brace for Palestine. Zayed Al-Kanbar scored another goal in the second half.
Iran won Group C with 9 points. The UAE and Palestine scored four points each. Second place and a direct ticket to the 1/8 finals went to the Emirates thanks to additional indicators. Palestine will await the results of the entire group round in hopes of qualifying based on the best third place results.
